Crit.

Had the final crit today, and it went really well. Everyone seemed to like my final outcome which was nice to hear. Only points they picked up on was that the font I ended up using was really feminine, which I knew, but in the last crit I was told a more handwritten font would be more suitable. Another thing was that I should of developed my other ideas more instead of just sticking with one, even though I explored that one idea thoroughly it would of been nice to be able to chose one which worked the most at the end.

* Note to self: Start working on design sheets!

My poster is uploaded to the don't panic website and is in the top 3 which I'm quite proud of. I've got some nice comments. Anyway, click here to have a look.

After printing it out with no background, I felt it looked too plain and really needed something else. I really didn't like it with a block colour for the background, it was just too boring, it needed some texture. So I created my own texture using brushes. I like it.

Be Natural, Be Genuine, Be You...

I kind of scrapped my other design and started from scratch. I decided a 'hand written' font was more suitable and so I had to adapt my original designs to suit the font. The font I decided to use is Bickham Script Pro. I printed off my statement and worked on it, then again scanned it in and traced over it in illustrator. I really like it and am actually quite proud of it. Again, it's not finished, I need to add a bit more text at the bottom explaining the poster, and I need to look at colour a bit more but I'm getting there.

I've done a little bit of experimenting with background, but I think I might just stick to not having one. I'll probably print off a few tonight and chose which one to submit tomorrow.

'Pure' Progress.

I've really been enjoying this project so far, it's given me the chance to develop my drawing skills and explore ways of working I haven't tried before. I've never been one for illustration, it's not that I don't like it I've just never really had an eye for it, but this project has practically forced me to try it and I've come to find I really like it.

I've been experimenting with illustrating text based on the word 'natural' so it mainly consists of flowers. As I wanted to use text, I felt it was the most suitable way of making it visually interesting.

Below is a sketch I did in my sketchbook which I then scanned and traced over in Illustrator. It's not finished or anything, and I still have to experiment with colour, but it's an idea of what I'm going to be submitting for the competition.

What do you mean by this?

In order to be yourself you need to be pure. To be pure you need to be genuine, honest and natural.

Who is your audience?

Teenagers who are still finding themselves/pretending to be something they're not. Art Students specifically interested in Graphic Design/Illustration. Anyone who enters the 'Don't panic' competition.

What will they respond to?

Welcome Back Brief.

We've been given our new brief and I'm really excited about it. We get to chose between 2 competitions to enter, and our work is actually be going to be submitted to that competition on Monday 2nd March. It's really nice to know that your work is going out there and that people are actually going to see it, rather than it sitting in a plan chest at College.

So, the competition I've chose to enter is the one on the Don't Panic website to design a poster on the word pure.
